When I was in high school and taking advanced math classes, I always wondered when I would ever use these skills again. I had planned to major in music and English and, as far as I knew, nothing but basic addition, subtraction and a few fractions would ever help me out in these fields.
So I went on to get my degree in English and, for the most part, I haven't ever had to use the quadratic formula or geometric theorems. Oh, some division and multiplication came into play, especially when I became a journalist and had to cover school and municipal budget hearings.
But this week, I learned why teachers always told me that I'd need this someday.
Someday I would have a child who struggled in math and I would need to know algebraic concepts so I could help him.
It's probably not the reason my teachers had counted on, but it's definitely a good enough reason for me.
So now, when my kids say, "I'm never going to use this!" I can tell them without question that someday they will.
Someday they'll have kids, too.

I don't use it either, probably can't even remember any formula
but I think it taught me to thing logically, in abstract ways, to decipher from a complex problem the different variables and their impact. And that is helpful in an ICT job :)
Hi VS, I read about big snow blizzards in Winsconsin in the news paper. How are you doing? Is this snow just winter as usual or are you impacted and disrupted by the weather?
take care and stay warm!
